The Best Spider-Man Spins Up A Live-Action Series

When someone hears the word Spider-Man, their mind seems to spin around Peter Parker, who's the most popular version of this superhero. But if you're a big comics fan, you'll know that Spider-Man has variants, and one of them is Spider-Man Noir. Spider-Man Noir has gathered his fandom for being different and quite interesting from Peter Parker, and although he might not be returning in Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequels, he will come back in a much more surprising and bigger way.

According to Variety’s report, a Spider-Man Noir live series is in the works at Amazon. Still an untitled project, it is set to follow "an older, grizzled superhero in 1930s New York City." Their trusted sources revealed that the show will be "set in its own universe" and that "the main character will not be Peter Parker." This adaptation will shy away from the source material, given that most adaptations, especially on-screen ones, always center on Peter Parker and are unlikely to include his other versions.

The upcoming live-action Amazon TV series will have Oren Uziel (Mortal Kombat, 22 Jump Street) write and run alongside producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse) and Amy Pascal (Spider-Man: No Way Home). It’s the second Spidey spinoff show that is expected from the streaming service, given that in November, Silk: Spider Society was announced. It is based on the Spider-Man ally Cindy Moon, a.k.a. Silk.

Spider-Man Noir appeared on the animated Ultimate Spider-Man show, voiced by Milo Ventimiglia (This Is Us), but fans got more intrigued by this dark and monochromatic version of Spider-Man when Noir was voiced by Nicolas Cage in 2018's Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Even though two more Spider-Verse films are coming, the first of which, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, opens in June, Cage said he has not been asked to return.

Spider-Man Noir first appeared in 2009 as part of Marvel Comics Marvel Noir line of stories, which reimagined Marvel characters as crime noir characters in the era of the Great Depression. Given that the live-action series is still in its early stages of development, more details have yet to be revealed. But if there’s one question that fans are asking, will the story be told in black and white?
