The Batman Star Zoe Kravitz Discusses The Pressure of Meeting Fan Expectations

It's still a long wait for The Batman but people are truly hyped up for Zoe Kravitz's version of Catwoman. It's a huge role and the Mad Max: Fury Road star understands that fans have certain expectations of the new Selina Kyle. Kravitz recently opened up about how she prepared for the part to make sure she got it right.

Kravitz's casting in The Batman was undoubtedly met with more excitement than when it was confirmed that Robert Pattinson is the new Bruce Wayne. Still, the Big Little Lies star didn't rely on the fans' enthusiasm and chose not to think about how people will react to her portrayal of Catwoman.

In an interview with Another Mag, Kravitz admitted that she had a lot of respect for the Batman fandom. This helped her figure out the best way to approach her version of her DC character.

"[The fans] are [hardcore], and because I respect them so much I chose not to think about them when making the movie," Kravitz said. "If I'm thinking about wanting everyone to like it and wanting all the fans to like it, I'm not going to actually bring a real person to life."

She continued by praising director Matt Reeves for what he did with Catwoman in The Batman.

"Matt wrote a really interesting story with a complex character, and the relationships are really interesting. All I wanted to do was honor that story," Kravitz said.

It's great to know that Kravitz had her own way to approach the role since it would mean that the new Catwoman would be truly her own. We only got a small glimpse of Selina in The Batman trailer and hopefully, we'll get to see more of her in action soon.

The Batman also stars Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Barry Keoghan, Jayme Lawson, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell. The film is scheduled for release on March 4, 2022.
