The Batman Director Admits Filming Fake Scenes to Hide [SPOILERS]

The Batman is one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year and fans were not disappointed after seeing the film in theaters this weekend. After all, there was an awesome cameo that may have been brief but showcased the talent of a rising star. So was it difficult to keep the surprise appearance a secret? Director Matt Reeves admitted that he had filmed a few fake scenes just to keep people from discovering the truth about a mystery character! WARNING, THE BATMAN SPOILERS AHEAD, PROCEED WITH CAUTION!

In The Batman, Edward Norton makes friends with an inmate who sounds a lot like the Joker. That inmate is played by Eternals star Barry Keoghan and Matt Reeves has since confirmed that he is playing the Clown Prince of Crime.

This might not be the best kept secret (there were rumors about the role for several months now) but Reeves took pains to prevent too many leaks.

"When you're making a movie like this, you want it to be different, you want people to feel like they're having a special experience," Reeves told IGN. "So we started thinking what we could do to throw people off that scent. This idea of making [Keoghan] Stanley Merkel was exactly that because the police force is actually a big part of the story so it seemed credible that we could be doing that."

Keoghan was originally reported to be playing a police officer named Stanley Merkel but a lot of fans were not convinced. Still, we're glad that Reeves chose Keoghan for an awesome role and hopefully, we'll see more of him in the future.

The Batman stars Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell. The film is now screening in theaters worldwide.
