Created by Frank Miller, Stanley Merkel was Jim Gordon's original partner and made his first debut in 1987's Batman #405. The character has made some appearances since then but eventually met his tragic fate in the Batman: Dark Victory storyline.

Aside from being set to star in The Eternals, Keoghan is known for his work in 2017's Dunkirk as well as in The Killing of a Sacred Deer, where he actually starred alongside Colin Farrell, who's set to play the role of Penguin in Robert Pattinson-led feature.

Along with Pattinson, Keoghan, and Farrell, The Batman stars Paul Dano, Zoe Kravitz, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Jayme Lawson, and Andy Serkis. The film is currently set for release on October 1, 2021.
