Terminator: Dark Fate Director Admits That The Franchise Has Been Tainted

When Terminator: Dark Fate was announced, most fans just shrugged off the news, even with the return of Linda Hamilton. You would think that most people would enjoy another Terminator movie, especially since we're in the age of nostalgia but that just isn't the case. Simply put, the franchise has been tainted by the stink of too many bad movies, with Terminator: Genisys, in particular, reaching new lows and genuinely being terrible.

Tim Miller, the director of Dark Fate and the original Deadpool movie, has admitted that this is a tainted franchise. In fact, it's so tainted that Dark Fate is only going to follow the continuity of the first two films, even though many fans considered Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines to be canon.

During an interview with Total Film (via Games Radar), Miller had this to say about how bad the franchise has gotten:

"I think the brand has been tainted a little bit. I don't want to disparage the work of any of those movies, and some of them were interesting, but I feel like they just played in the world of The Terminator; it was essentially a different thing. T2 was just one of those events that was a fucking revelation. It's one of those films that everyone remembers what they were doing when they first saw it. I still don't think I realise what I'm doing trying to follow that up."

Miller admitted that he doesn't know why he's trying to follow up the second film shows just how much of an impact it made. It's not that Terminator 2 couldn't have a sequel but the fact that all of them have been done poorly is just sad. Granted, I don't think the third film is as bad as others say it is but compared to the second film, it is pretty sad.

Terminator: Dark Fate is coming out on November 1.
