Talk to Me Directors Admit to Turning Down DCU Offer

One of the horror films that is set to release this year is Talk to Me by directors Danny and Michael Philippou. It made a huge splash when it was released at Sundance Film Festival and South by Southwest Film Festival and its success could potentially lead to the directing duo's eventual bigger career in Hollywood.

As we've also seen in the last several years, a lot of franchises have also recruited filmmakers from the independent movie front to helm their big-budget films. The Philippou brothers were no exception as they revealed last February that they had a meeting with DC.

During a recent Instagram live stream (via The Direct), the Philippou brothers were asked for updates regarding their meeting with DC where they revealed that they turned down the offer to join the franchise as they want to continue working on original material.

"‘How did the DC meeting go?’ Amazing. DC meeting went amazing. They offered us a project, but we decided not to go for it at the moment. We wanted to, yeah, just stick with our original material for the time being. But yeah, we’ll see. In the future, you never know. You never know. I’m keen to see what James Gunn does with the universe. I’m excited to see it," Danny said.

Hearing their comments and perspective regarding the possibility of joining the DCU, it is understandable to hear why they rejected the opportunity, and, in a world where IPs are dominating the entertainment business, it is more important to showcase more original voices in the art of cinema.

As we heard in the reception of their film, it looks like they are the promising new voices in cinema and it would have been interesting to hear their take on the comic book world. Fortunately, they didn't shoot down the possibility, and there is a chance that they'll revisit the opportunity at some point in the future.
