It’s a great time to be a Studio Ghibli fan right now. Aside from the planned expansion of Ghibli Park and Miyazaki’s new film coming to US cinemas, Takara Tomy announced an adorable No-Face toy car that’s part of the Dream Tomica Ghibli collection.

This isn’t the first Spirited Away collectible in Takara Tomy’s lineup, but it’s arguably the cutest one in the collection.

With this, Ghibli collectors have another must-have item, especially for those who own the nine previously released toys in the lineup.

Takara Tomy’s Dream Tomica is a popular line of toy cars. Instead of being based on real-life cars like the original Tomica collection, this lineup features licensed characters from popular movies and shows.

This toy car series’ first entry was launched in 2012, but it was only in November 2022 that Dream Tomica teamed up with Ghibli for toy cars inspired by various characters and transport from the studio’s films.

The first three releases in the collection included the Cat Bus from My Neighbor Totoro, the Savoia S.21F from Porco Rosso, and the Sea Railway from Spirited Away.

Since then, more models have been released. These include the Castle Moth from Castle in the Sky, Sosuke’s Pop Pop Boat from Ponyo, Jiji from Kiki’s Delivery Service, and the three-wheeler from My Neighbor Totoro.

Just last month, Howl’s Castle and Calcifer from Howl’s Moving Castle also got Dream Tomica models. The Calcifer toy car, in particular, is interesting as it isn’t a vehicle. Instead, it’s a pot with Calcifer on it with wheels.

Now, the tenth entry in the lineup has been released, and it’s none other than No-Face, the iconic character from Spirited Away.

This model is reminiscent of the Calcifer toy car. That’s because this No-Face model features him sitting on a tarai-bune, a Japanese tub boat.

The new No-Face Dream Tomica car is no doubt a must-have for Ghibli fans, especially considering how adorable it is. Not to mention that the toy car is a nice reference to one of the film’s scenes near the end.

Takara Tomy’s No-Face toy car will be released in Japan in mid-January 2024. Pre-orders for it are available now, and it is priced at JPY 1,320 (around USD 9).

There’s no word yet on when this toy will be released outside of Japan. Fingers are crossed that it also gets released in the US and other countries early next year.
