The Spider-Verse continues to expand with several upcoming projects like Tom Hardy's Venom 3, Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Kraven The Hunter, and Dakota Johnson's Madame Web. Madame Web is one of the many highly-anticipated Spider-Man spinoffs due to Dakota Johnson's thrilling debut as the titular heroine. With S.J. Clarkson confirmed as the director, Emma Roberts recently joined the film in an undisclosed role.
If that's not exhilarating enough, Euphoria's Cassie actress Sydney Sweeney will also join Johnson and Roberts in the upcoming film. Thankfully, in a recent interview, Sweeney shared an update about Sony and Marvel's Madame Web.
When asked by Variety what the White Lotus star was working on, Sweeney did not hold back and unveiled that the Madame Web has already commenced filming, but can't reveal details about it.
"Currently I’m filming “Madame Webb.” And I can’t really say anything about my character, but I’m very excited," she said. "My first Marvel movie. So it’s been a lot of fun, a lot of training and just prep work to get into it and then I previously just finished “National Anthem” directed by Tony Toast from Bron studios. So I’m very excited for that character. Her name is Penny Joe, and she was a cute, sweet-hearted character. I loved her."
The mystery about not knowing details about the Spider-Man spinoff somehow works to gather more anticipation. For now, the three acclaimed actress's inclusion in the upcoming film is already compelling enough. Both Dakota Johnson and Emma Roberts already established a triumphant career in Hollywood, while Sydney Sweeney is one of the rising stars in the generation - and recently got nominated for two Emmy categories.
According to rumors, Sweeney could either play Black Cat or Spider-Gwen in the upcoming film. While we don't have any confirmations yet, we'll certainly get more updates now that Madame Web has already started filming.
Madame Web is pushing a July 7, 2023 release date.
