Ahead of the film’s wide release in Japan this September, Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night released a new trailer and key visual, along with new information about the upcoming anime movie.
The new trailer was released on the official Aniplex YouTube channel, with the key visual being shared on the Sword Art Online official Twitter account and movie website.

While it’s a fairly short trailer at just over 30 seconds long, it does show off new action-packed scenes from the upcoming Sword Art Online Progressive movie featuring main characters, Kirito and Asuna.
Alongside the trailer, it was revealed that Eir Aoi will perform the movie’s theme song entitled "Shinzо̄" (or Heart).
Eir Aoi, in case you’re unfamiliar, is a Japanese singer who is well known for singing “Innocence” which is the second opening of Sword Art Online Season 1.
Aoi also performed other songs for other Sword Art Online projects, including the first opening theme for Sword Art Online II and songs for several SAO video games.

The film also released a new key visual which highlights Kirito, Asuna, and Argo.
The movie stars returning cast members Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Kirito, Haruka Tomatsu as Asuna, Shiori Izawa as Argo, and Inori Minase as Misumi Tozawa.
Joining them are new cast members Yusuke Kobayashi as Morte and Kaede Hondo as Liten.
Scherzo of the Deep Night is the second SAO Progressive movie, serving as the follow-up to Aria of a Starless Night which was released on October 30, 2021. Though it is technically the third movie in the SAO franchise.
The film is based on the Sword Art Online Progressive light novel series which is an expanded retelling of the Aincrad arc in the original SAO series.

Scherzo of the Deep Night is set to release in Japanese cinemas on September 10, 2022.
Ahead of the film’s wide release, an advanced screening will be held on August 24, 2022, at Shinjuku Wald 9. This screening will be attended by Eir Aoi and Yoshitsugu Matsuoka.
