Surprise! The Woods is A Blair Witch Sequel After All

If you have been following The Woods from Lionsgate, you'll be surprised that it's actually a sequel from a hit from way back in the last leg of the 90s.

It was only recently when The Woods, now dubbed Blair Witch, has been revealed as a sequel to The Blair Witch Project. This may come as a surprise, but the creators had been keeping the project under tight wraps, so much so that during its filming since last year, the movie kept going by the name The Woods.

After its public premiere at the San Diego Comic-Con, the creators finally lifted the veil. Director Adam Wingard had confirmed that The Woods was a working title. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions at Lionsgate Jason Constantine shared that he was amazed that it ended up with no leaks prior to the big reveal.

"It really has been fascinating, all the CIA-level security that we have put around this project, from the very beginning. I've been at Lionsgate for 16 years, and I've had the privilege of working on a lot of movies that I love, and are a lot of fun: horror movies, and action movies, and Oscar movies. But never have we ever set out to make a reboot movie, and keep it in total secrecy, with a brand that's as well known to the public as this one."
Synopsis:
Adam Wingard directs the official sequel Blair Witch which revolves around the brother of Heather Donahue from the original film who sets out with friends into the Maryland forest in order to learn the truth about his sister's disappearance.

Blair Witch is slated to release in theaters on Sept. 16 stars James Allen McCune, Valorie Curry, Callie Hernandez, and Brandon Scott.
