Superman Man of Steel Sequel Is in Active Development

Warner Bros is now actively developing a sequel to Zack Snyder's 2013 Man of Steel movie, TheWrap reports. An undisclosed "person familiar with the project" is cited as the source of this news. A release date for the sequel has yet to be announced.

Man of Steel starred Henry Cavill as Superman and the sequel will likely follow suit. The Man of Steel already got a sequel of sorts in the form of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which was released this year. The movie was not solely a Superman movie, but it did follow up on the events of Man of Steel, dealing primarily with the huge amount of destruction caused by the fight between Superman and Zod at the end of the movie.

At the end of Batman v. Superman, Superman apparently lost his life battling Doomsday. However, those familiar with the Death of Superman story the battle with Doomsday of Batman knew that he would almost certainly come back from the dead like he did in the source material. The movie also heavily implied the death wasn't permanent with the final shot of Superman's casket. Now that a sequel is supposedly in the works, Superman's return is definitively confirmed. It is unknown at this point if he will be appearing in the upcoming Justice League movie.

There is also a standalone Batman movie planned, though like this sequel it doesn't have a release date. However, the source said that the Batman movie would likely come out before the Man of Steel sequel. There are two untitled DC movies October 5, 2018 and November 1, 2019, so it is possible those movies will be the Batman movie and the Man of Steel sequel respectively.

I personally wasn't a huge fan of the first Man of Steel, but I'll keep an open mind and see what the sequel has to offer. What do you think of the news? Are you looking forward to a Man of Steel sequel?
