Fans of the DC Universe are ready to leave the past behind and embrace the franchise's future slate under the influence of James Gunn and Peter Safran. So far, DC Studios' first big-screen offering Superman: Legacy is coming together nicely despite the SAG-AFTRA strike coming into play just a couple of days ago.

Days before the strike commenced, the project, led by David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan added several actors to the cast including Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardener, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl.

All four actors already have comic book film experience but did you know that Merced was nearly cast in a doomed DCEU film? Yup, before landing the role of Hawkgirl, she was in contention to lead the standalone Batgirl film.

It turns out that the star of Dora and the Lost City of Gold was among the actors vying for the role of Barbara Gordon (via ComicBook) in the canceled DCEU project which would have starred Leslie Grace.

The film, which would have also included Michael Keaton's Batman made headlines last year following the Warner Bros. Discovery merger as it was deemed "unreleasable" by CEO David Zaslav.

Of course, one can argue that Batgirl is a bigger character than Hawkgirl but at least the rising actress managed to dodge a bullet. And with Gunn's stellar track record when it comes to superhero films, I think we can all agree that she's in good hands.

As it stands, Superman: Legacy is eyeing to begin production in early 2024 but with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike in full effect, it's hard to tell if things will go according to plan.

DC Studios' Superman: Legacy is slated for theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
