Superman: Legacy Receives Writing Update Amidst Writers' Strike

There would be no films and television shows without writers. After failing to secure a deal with production companies for fair pay and a contract, the Writers Guild of America issued a strike.

Given that this strike is not to be belittled as it has the power to impact upcoming motion pictures and series, fans are worried that their most anticipated projects will suffer in this predicament.

As James Gunn currently revamps the DC Universe, one of the most exciting offerings that they will soon give the viewers is Superman: Legacy, for which Gunn will serve as director and writer.

Even if the DC movie is still two years away, fans are worried if the strike will impact the project, and a new report revealed that their worries should be put elsewhere.

According to The Wrap, the DC Studios boss reportedly submitted the first draft of Superman: Legacy last week, ahead of the ongoing WGA strike.

Even though the filmmaker already handed over his initial script for the DC movie, industry insider Jeff Sneider said that Gunn is still in full support of the WGA.

Gunn previously announced that pre-production for his Superman movie has started, with costumes and production design up and running. But he confirmed that no actor has been cast yet for the role of Man of Steel.

Last week, Gunn got honest with Variety regarding the qualifications that he’s looking for in his next Superman.

“The next Superman has to be someone who has all the humanity that Superman has but he’s also an alien. It’s gotta be somebody who has the kindness and the compassion that Superman has and be somebody who you want to give a hug,” he said.

Amidst the casting reports, Madelyn Cline of the Outer Banks fueled rumors that she is going to appear in the Superman film, probably in the role of Lois Lane.

With the DC project still far ahead, too little information is known about it. But aside from the Superman movie, a new Batman film, Supergirl, Swamp Thing, and a TV show focused on Viola Davis’ Waller are all expected in the new DCU.

Superman: Legacy is slated for release on July 11, 2025.
