Becoming the new DC Universe Superman isn't easy, and that's exactly what the new Man of Steel actor David Corenswet detailed about his intense physical preparation for the role.
Superman Star David Corenswet Admits Struggles with Intense Physical Workout
Transforming into the Man of Steel turned out to be more of a challenge than Pearl star David Corenswet anticipated. Looking the part isn't always as glamorous when it comes to 'bulking up', as he recently shared.
"I wasn't 238 [pounds] when we started shooting," Corenswet explained in a recent interview on the Manly Things (Sort Of) podcast, "I was 238 at my max. I didn't fit into any of my pants. That was the peak of my bulk."
Corenswet added how difficult it was to maintain his peak weight during the production of Superman: Legacy and said that getting used to his first transformation "didn't feel great", the extra weight was considered a challenge.
"And then I slowly lost weight before we started shooting," the 31-year-old actor said, "I started shooting at about 228, 230... I know I wanted this to be my excuse to see what it felt like to gain essentially as much weight as I could."
"David Corenswet worked his a** off," the personal trainer for the Superman cast Paolo Mascitti wrote in a shared photo of the upcoming DCU hero sporting the blue and red suit on Instagram, "I can't wait to share more of the training we did to prepare to play this iconic character. Stay tuned for more."
James Gunn's highly anticipated DC reboot starts with Creature Commandos and Superman as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas reconciles with his Kryptonian heritage while navigating his way the American way.
As David Corenswet portrays the Man of Steel on the big screens, his co-star Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) is portraying Lois Lane.
