One of the DCU films currently in the works is Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which DC Studios co-chairman James Gunn described during the announcement last year as a "big science-fiction epic film" and "beautiful, star-spanning tale."

Sasha Calle is not expected to reprise the role from The Flash as the character will be recast with a different actress for the DCU version.

The project gained some steam a few months ago as it was reported that playwright Ana Nogueira was tapped to write the screenplay of the film.

Now, it looks like we are getting closer to finding out who will become the DCU's Woman of Tomorrow.

A recent report from Deadline revealed the three actresses who are vying for the role of Supergirl in the DCU and are set to undergo screen tests soon.

Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon), Emilia Jones (CODA), and Meg Donnelly (Zombies) are the frontrunners to become the DCU's Woman of Tomorrow.

It was noted in the report that DC Studios might still make a straight offer to a star, but it is more likely that they are heading to the screen tests for the three actresses within the next month. Gunn is involved in the casting process.

The character is expected to make her DCU debut through a cameo appearance in a different project first before headlining her own movie.

This is an interesting line-up for the frontrunners on the role as they are all young talented actresses who have been making their mark in the industry for the past few years.

Alcock made her breakthrough when she played the young Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon. Jones recently starred in the Oscar Best Picture winner CODA, where she received a lot of accolades for her performance.

Interestingly, Donnelly already has a history with Supergirl as she voiced the character in the Legion of Super-Heroes animated film and it is curious to see whether it will have some bearing on DC Studios' casting decision for the role.

For now, let's wait and see who they'll end up casting on the role and we might be able to hear about it within the next month or so.
