Supergirl Season 4 Casts Jon Cryer As Lex Luthor

Lex Luthor is finally coming to Supergirl Season 4. Interestingly, the infamous DC comic book villain will be played by Two and a Half Men star Jon Cryer.

According to TVLine, Cryer will debut as Superman's archnemesis in the 15th episode of the current season. The Pretty in Pink actor is the third Luthor who will be introduced in the CW series after Lena (Katie McGrath) and Lillian (Brenda Strong).

Supergirl executive producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller are clearly thrilled to have Cryer on the series. They released a statement about the veteran actor's upcoming appearance.

"We are enormous fans of Jon Cryer, and he was instantly our dream actor to play the iconic role of Lex Luthor. Jon is a super-talent, and the fact that he played Lenny Luthor in Superman IV brings an added layer of legacy to his casting. We're beyond thrilled to welcome Jon to the Supergirl family."

This will be the second time that Cryer will be playing someone from the Luthor family. As mentioned by Rovner and Queller, he appeared as Lex's nephew Lenny in Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, which starred Christopher Reeve and Gene Hackman. This is the third DC villain he will portray, having provided the voice of Felix Faust in the animated series Justice League Action.

Supergirl had an awesome tendency to cast veteran actors with previous DC links. Helen Slater has previously played Kara Zor-El in the 1984 film before being cast as Eliza Danvers. Likewise, Dean Cain played Kal El in Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman before landing the role of Kara's adoptive father Jeremiah Danvers. Needless to say, Cryer's casting is a welcome one for fans of the show.

Supergirl Season 4 airs every Sunday nights on The CW.
