Super Mario Odyssey is The First Mainline Mario Game to Receive Rating Higher Than E

Super Mario Odyssey, the upcoming Nintendo Switch game, has received a rating from the ESRB, and it's not the usual "E" or "Everybody" the previous Mario platformer games have received before. The game is the first mainline Mario title to receive E10+

As GoNintendo pointed out, the next Mario game has a listed rating, but the ESRB hasn't provided any reasons for the game's rating, so we have no idea what could be inappropriate for gamers under 10.

Perhaps Mario's new ability to destroy and possess those on his way was considered too much for young children.

While some Mario spin-offs have received a higher rating, every Mario platformer game until now has been an E.

ESRB's rating guide shows that games with E10+ rating are likely to have "more cartoon, fantasy or mild violence, mild language and/or minimal suggestive themes"

Super Mario Odyssey is set to launch on October 27.
