Ubisoft has announced the new title for its virtual reality Star Trek game.

Ubisoft made the announcement via their Twitter account. The reveal of the game's title, Star Trek: Bridge Crew, came with an awesome image of LeVar Burton, Karl Urban, and Jeri Ryan giving Bridge Crew a try on the Oculus Rift.

Earlier this month, the actors got together to take the virtual reality game for a spin, with their session being recorded for a promo video to be featured on Ubisoft's press conference later today.

Developed by Red Storm Entertainment, Star Trek: Bridge Crew is a four-player VR title where the starship Aegis features one captain, while the rest of the gamers take on the rest of the remaining roles on the ship which include a tactical, engineering, or helm officer.

According to Red Storm's Senior Creative Director, David Votypka (via VG247), Bridge Crew is far from "lame," since there's an "awesome sensation" that comes with the game after players push buttons.

At first, people might think you're just pushing buttons and that's lame.
However, it's what the buttons do that makes it cool. You're on a Federation starship firing torpedoes, raising shields and turning on the red alert. That's an awesome sensation, especially when you're playing in VR with friends.

Votypka added that the Aegis is just like the Enterprise with about 90 percent of its features, since its missions are both randomly generated, as well as story-driven.

Votypka said:

It's up to you if you want to try the Kirk approach or be more methodical.
The game is more about how you and your crew approach situations. It's not binary. Is it more important to save the Vulcan scientists or rescue everyone on the planet? It might be too difficult to do both. It's just like the show. There's not any one right answer.

From the looks of it, Bridge Crew is more than just your usual virtual reality game. I'm pretty intrigued about that "sensation" Votypka is talking about that is unique to the game. Add to that the ton of gameplay options, I think even non-Star Trek fans will absolutely enjoy the game.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew will be available on Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR starting this fall. More news about the VR game will come following Ubisoft's press conference today.
