Suicide Squad Will Feature A "Romantic Love Triangle" Involving Harley Quinn

As we've seen in the trailer and photos from Empire Magazine, David Ayer's Suicide Squad is featuring a radically different kind unlike any we've seen in films before. We still don't know much about its story, but in the latest issue from Empire, Ayer says that Harley Quinn's arc in the story serves as a thematic connection for the characters in the Suicide Squad:

"It's about her breaking free of The Joker and becoming this fully actualised, independent person. That really is a metaphor for everyone's journey here."

Will Smith also revealed in an interview that his character, Deadshot, has his eye on Harley:

"Harley is the biggest troublemaker, but Deadshot's actually eyeballing her a little bit. There's a pretty ragged romantic triangle there."

Smith also talked about the background of his character, and how it relates to the opening of the film:

"As the movie opens, he has a really big career score. He's looking to turn over a new leaf with his daughter after the hit, but it goes wrong. It goes terribly, terribly wrong. And it lands him in Belle Reve for life."

Suicide Squad will be released in theaters on Aug. 5, 2016.
