Suicide Squad Director Praises James Gunn's Hiring

The news of James Gunn writing and possibly directing a new Suicide Squad movie has set the internet ablaze. Fans have wanted some form of justice for Gunn after he was unceremoniously fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and we got it. Nothing else screams "screw you" like working for your former company's competitor.

David Ayer, the director of the first Suicide Squad movie and the upcoming Gotham City Sirens, is quite happy with the move as he endorsed it on Twitter. Ayer says it's a "smart and brave move" from the studio, which we're going to have to agree with, given all of the hooplas that has followed Gunn since his firing from Disney.

Fans had already been comparing Suicide Squad to Guardians of the Galaxy since the first trailer came out. While the original does have its fans, there's no denying that it is a hot mess that is only carried by the charisma of some of its performance. If Gunn directs or writes the movie, it will be a marked improvement over what came before.

Gunn also has a horror movie coming in 2019 from Sony called BrightBurn, so it does seem like things are looking up for the former Guardians director. Drax actor Dave Bautista even teased jumping ship, asking Gunn where he should sign after the initial report came out.

No release date for this new Suicide Squad movie has been revealed. Expect this film to be in development for a while, at least until more concrete details are announced.
