Suicide Squad Director David Ayer Reflects on Writing Training Day Ahead of Film's 20th Anniversary

Before he directed 2016's Suicide Squad, David Ayer was a screenwriter who worked on films like U-571 and the first Fast and The Furious movie. However, it was Training Day that served as Ayer's breakthrough screenplay. So it's no surprise that the Bright director is looking back at his first huge hit ahead of Training Day's 20th anniversary.

Training Day was released in 2001 and it won several awards like the Best Actor Oscar for Denzel Washington. However, the film also turned out to be one of the most quotable movies, thanks to Ayer's impeccable writing.

Needless to say, working on the movie was truly memorable for Ayer who decided to share images of the screenplay on Twitter.

Ayer's post comes just in time for the film's 20th anniversary so it's a great way to look back at Training Day. Needless to say, it was a film that changed things for Ayer as well as Washington and director Antoine Fuqua.

But what are the chances we'll see a Training Day sequel in the future? The film has already spawned a spin-off series in 2017 that was canceled after the death of star Bill Paxton. There have also been reports of a prequel focusing on a young Alonzo Harris but there have been no updates on the project so far. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.

Ayer's most recent works included Birds of Prey where he served as executive producer and the Shia LaBeouf film The Tax Collector. He is also hoping to release the Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad.
