Suicide Squad Concept Art Reveals Mark Strong As Heavily Scarred Joker

It's still difficult to unsee Jared Leto's take on the Clown Prince of Crime in Suicide Squad. However, a newly discovered concept art for the DC Extended Universe flick reveals that Warner Bros. probably had other plans for the Joker in the David Ayer movie.

The concept art was actually created by artist Peter Mitchell Rubin for the film (via Reddit). Interestingly, the image doesn't feature Leto's tattooed incarnation of the Joker. Instead, the photo shows Kingsman star Mark Strong as an older and heavily scarred version of the comic book villain. Take a look at the picture below.

It's certainly a different yet jarring look. Strong's version of the baddie actually looks like an older version of Heath Ledger's iconic take on the character. In addition to that, he might have gone up against Ben Affleck's Batman prior to the events in Suicide Squad. This Joker probably enjoys the luxuries that Leto's madman enjoyed, but is clearly more refined in dealing with his madness.

We may have missed out on seeing Strong as the Clown Prince of Crime but the Sherlock Holmes star still ended up playing a different baddie in an upcoming DCEU flick. He will portray Doctor Sivana in Shazam!, which stars Zachary Levi as the comic book superhero.

Warner Bros. certainly still has plans for the Joker. After all, the villain is set to have his own standalone film and will be played by Joaquin Phoenix.

Strong will appear in Shazam!, which will hit theaters on April 5, 2019. Phoenix's Joker movie is scheduled for release on October 4, 2019.
