Succession Season 4 is now underway. So, in preparation for the Season 3 finale, we got an early start on gathering all of our notes on the new season. Of course, expect an update on Monday following the conclusion, which will most likely shake up our ideas about the plot.

A fourth season was first mentioned during Season 3's airing. HBO announced a fourth season of the Roy family drama on Oct. 26, right between Episodes 2 and 3.

Parent company WarnerMedia broke the news with a press release stating, "The season three premiere of Succession drew over 1.4 million viewers across all platforms, marking a series high and the best premiere night of any HBO Original series since the launch of HBO Max."

Succession Season 4 Cast

The cast of Succession has generally remained consistent during Seasons 1-3, and it's likely that will continue in Season 4. The big issue heading into the conclusion is what happens to Kendall once Succession Season 3, Episode 8 ends.

Otherwise, the cast of Succession Season 4 should include all of the main characters:

Brian Cox as Logan Roy, Kieran Culkin as Roman, Sarah Snook as Shiv, Alan Ruck as Connor, Matthew Macfayden as Tom Wambsgans, Nicholas Braun as "Cousin" Greg Hirsch, and J. Smith-Cameron as Gerri Kellman should all be back for more, while some of Succession Season 3's guest stars, like Alexandar Skarsgaård as Lukas Matsson, may also return.

Succession Season 4 Story

The Roy family will undoubtedly face several unexpected twists and turns in the coming season, especially when new alliances are formed and people's noses are twisted. The overall thread of who will follow Logan at WayStar will undoubtedly continue to be the main focus of Succession Season 4, with Shiv and Roman likely to continue fighting for control.

Season 4's plot might include some important new elements, such as a presidential election, the aftermath of Kendall's actions, and the proposed merger with GoJo, all of which could take the show in whole new places.

Succession Season 4 Release Date

Around the same time as Succession's renewal was announced, Cox told GQ that filming would likely not resume until summer 2022, with June "roughly the plan." Succession Season 1 began filming in October 2017 (after shooting its pilot earlier), and was released in June 2018. Due to COVID-19, Season 2 began filming in early 2019 and premiered in August of that year, however, Season 3 took nearly a year to film before broadcasting.

The release date for Succession Season 4 may be as early as 2023, while HBO could push it back to the spring or summer.
