The week has gave us some pretty great trailers from the Bumblebee, The LEGO Movie 2, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse; and as promised, DreamWorks has given us our first preview for How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.
Now chief and ruler of Berk alongside Astrid, Hiccup has created a gloriously chaotic dragon utopia. When the sudden appearance of female Light Fury coincides with the darkest threat their village has ever faced, Hiccup and Toothless must leave the only home they've known and journey to a hidden world thought only to exist in myth. As their true destines are revealed, dragon and rider will fight together—to the very ends of the Earth—to protect everything they've grown to treasure.
Based on the cryptic voiceover in the beginning of the trailer, we could see the dragons separate from the humans at some point in the film. It looks like there'll be a significant time jump as well, but we only get to see Hiccup with a full beard in one shot of the trailer.
This is also lining up to the rumor that went out last year that the film will have something to do with the dragons disappearing. It will probably have something to do with the Light Fury and what looks to be a teleportation ability.
DreamWorks has been behind a lot of great animated franchises from Shrek to Kung Fu Panda, but none have managed to grow in maturity like the How to Train Your Dragon franchise. The film is still set to come out in 2019, so we have a long wait ahead of us. Hopefully the trailers don't spoil anything along the way.
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World comes out March 1, 2019.
