Some Ghibli fans may be worried about the studio’s future following the acquisition announcement, but at least, the studio won’t be going anywhere. While there’s no new film project yet, Studio Ghibli is set to release its first-ever tribute album this November.

Instead of being a greatest hits collection of iconic Ghibli music, this album features new renditions of popular songs from the studio’s works.

The new album is also special as it features a lovely illustration from Goro Miyazaki.

Hayao Miyazaki is synonymous with Studio Ghibli for many anime fans. After all, aside from co-founding the studio, he also directed some of Ghibli’s most iconic films, including Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro.

His son, Goro, is also a notable figure in the studio. Aside from directing films for the studio, Goro has also been involved in many projects within Ghibli. The latest one is the special illustration for the studio’s new album.

This illustration comes in two variations, though it’s not of a specific character. Instead, it’s an original character that’s drawn in Ghibli’s signature style.

Goro Miyazaki’s involvement in the album indicates that he will continue being part of Ghibli even though he declined offers to become the studio’s new head.
