It looks like anime fans are going to keep their Netflix subscription this year as the company has announced that they gained the international rights to air Studio Ghibli movies on their service. A lot of people are going to love this since Studio Ghibli makes some of the best anime films out there and having them stream on the most popular streaming service is going to keep a lot of good viewers, maybe even gain some newer ones.
According to Deadline, 21 of their movies will be coming out on the streaming service, starting on February 1. Keep in mind that this is mostly for Europe, Australia, and a number of Asian countries outside of Japan. Both Japan and North America have their own ways of showing these movies, with HBO Max being the home to Ghibli films once it comes out.
Here's the list of Studio Ghibli movies coming out and when they'll be hitting Netflix:
Needless to say, it's a good time to be a Netflix subscriber, especially if you live outside of the US. As a Filipino, the news fills me with glee and I can't wait to invite my weeb friends over so that we can geek out over these movies. As for those in the US, either wait for HBO Max, buy them on DVD or Blu-ray, or get Nord VPN to watch them on Netflix.
Studio Ghibli movies will start coming to Netflix in international countries, starting on February 1.
