The hit 2017 Kdrama Strong Girl Bong-soon has spin-off series, Strong Girl Nam-soon. Now that the new show has been unveiled, we can't help but wonder if Nam-soon is related to Bong-soon.
Here's what we know about the upcoming series.
Is This a Sequel to the 2017 Series?
The 2017 series, Strong Girl Bong-Soon followed the story of a woman with Herculean strength. The show followed Do Bong-soon (played by Park Bo-young) as she worked as a bodyguard to chaebol Ahn Min-hyuk (played by Park Hyung-sik).
Bong-soon's dream, however, is to create a video game inspired by her super strength. She meets Min-hyuk, who is the heir of Ainsoft, a gaming company.
After six years, we're finally getting a spin-off series of the show. Strong Girl Nam-Soon follows the story of Nam-soon (played by Lee Yoo-mi) as she fights a drug lord operating in Gangnam.
She is joined by her mother, Hwang Geum-joo (played by Kim Jung-eun), and grandmother, Gil Joong-gan (played by Kim Hae-sook), who have the same power as her.
The three generations of women join forces to bring down Ryu Shi-oh's (played by Byeon Woo-seok) drug business.
Since this show focuses on a new set of characters, it is considered a spin-off series instead of a sequel. Strong Girl Nam-soon is directed by Kim Jung-sik with a script written by Baek Mi-kyeong, who also wrote the original series, Strong Girl Do Bong-Soon.
Is Nam-Soon Related to Bong-Soon?
Yes, Gang Nam-soon is the second cousin of Do Bong-soon. Nam-soon has gotten her own TV series called Strong Girl Nam-soon while Bong-soon starred in her own show in 2017.
As it turns out, Bong-soon's superhuman strength runs in the family. Nam-soon's mother and grandmother also have this power. And together, the trio helps each other fight the bad guys.
Will Park Bo-Young Be Reprising Her Role in Strong Girl Nam-soon?
If you're one of the many who are waiting for Bo-young's return, here is some good news.
It's been confirmed that both Park Bo-young and Park Hyung-sik will be making a special appearance in the spinoff series. Soompi reported that the two have finished filming their scenes for the new series.
As for the other members of the cast, there's no update yet on whether they will be appearing on Strong Girl Nam-soon as well. But it's worth keeping an eye out for these characters.
