Besides Lee Jung Jae and Director Hwang Dong Hyuk, another Squid Game cast, Lee Yoo Mi made headlines after winning a major achievement at the 74th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards.

The 28-year-old made history after she became the first Korean actress to win the award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series, beating Hollywood celebrities including Marcia Gay Harden (The Morning Show), Martha Kelly (Euphoria), Hope Davis, Sanaa Lathan and Harriet Walter  (Succession.)

Her first international win is for her role as Ji Yeong or player no. 240 in the Netflix series Squid Game.

Lee Yoo Mi gained the public’s attention after showing her outstanding skills in one of the heartbreaking scenes in the 9-part episode series along with Jung Ho Yeon, who took the role of North Korean defector Kang Sae Byeok.

As obtained by Newsis, Lee Yoo Mi mentioned in an interview that she still couldn't believe that she took home an award from the prestigious ceremony.

"The Emmy Award was such an honorable experience for me. I am so happy and still can't believe it,” she said.

Interestingly, the announcement of winners at the  74th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards is the same day as the premiere of Lee Yoo Mi’s new drama, Mental Coach Jegal, making it a double celebration for the actress.

"Since it was the first airing day of Mental Coach Jegal right after I won the Emmy Award, I think my emotions at that time were a repetition of tension and excitement."

With her continued success, the actress says that she is “very lucky to have found a good role in a good drama.”

Mental Coach Jegal is Lee Yoo Mi’s current series where she plays the main character, Cha Ga Eul, who used to be a former world-class short track speed skating gold medalist but has fallen into a slump due to an incident.

Once hailed as an up-and-coming “Ice Princess”, her career in sports was cut short, and she beat herself up until she met coach Jegal, played by Jung Woo.

Joining Lee Yoo Mi in the sports-themed life drama are Kwon Yool from Voice 4, Moon You Kang and Park Se Young.
