  • Quick Answer: Netflix renewed Tales From '85 following its strong Top 10 debut; season 2 arrives in late 2026, exploring new threats in winter 1985 Hawkins.

While Netflix's flagship series ended last December, it seems its animated spin-off, Tales From '85, is going just as strong on its home streaming platform. In fact, so strong that the spin-off earned a season 2 renewal after its impressive viewership upon its debut.

The quick news of the Stranger Things: Tales From '85 renewal comes less than a week after its April 23 premiere, and for good reason: the debut led the series at #7 on the Netflix Global Top 10.

Showrunner Eric Robles confirmed that the production team is already deep into the next chapter, having likely worked on the two installments back-to-back to meet the ambitious Fall 2026 release window.

The ten-episode series, which falls between the events of Stranger Things seasons 2 and 3, pretty much expanded the canon universe shown in the flagship series, and perhaps, similar to how the Star Wars universe continued to persevere through spin-offs, prequels, and sequels, then Mike and his gang's adventure in Hawkins could receive the same treatment.

When Robles was looking for a grand inspiration for Tales From '85, he immediately went with The Real Ghostbusters: "Back then, just to be given an animated version of more adventures with the team was a dream come true. But if you're familiar with The Real Ghostbusters, you know Ghostbusters II came out, and it wasn't like, 'How come they don't talk about the Boogeyman?' because the Boogeyman was a big part of the animated series."

Robles added that Matt and Ross Duffer specifically asked him to have "great adventures" with the kids when they "weren't worrying about saving the world." For the animation, it's just about keeping the peace in Hawkins.

What Post-Stranger Things' Popularity Means for the Flagship Netflix Series

There is no question as to why Tales From '85 found success almost immediately. If anything, the animation essentially bridges the two narratives by not only expanding the universe but by showing that Mike and his gang actually spent time being kids in Hawkins (without the pressure of the world in their hands yet).

Considering there are still plenty of unanswered questions from Stranger Things season 5, the spinoffs will likely pave the way to satisfy all viewers in their own way.

While the spin-off retains the original characters of the flagship series, the main cast did not return to voice their respective characters. Instead, Tales From '85 has Brooklyn Davey Norstedt taking over as Eleven, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, Luca Diaz as Mike, Elisha “EJ” Williams as Lucas, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Benjamin Plessala as Will, Brett Gipson as Hopper, Jeremy Jordan as Steve, as well as Janeane Garofalo and Lou Diamond Phillips.

For now, fans can wait until Stranger Things: Tales From '85 season 2 releases in Fall 2026 on Netflix. Stay tuned!
