The Duffer Brothers, the showrunners of Stranger Things, confirmed that Season 4 will not be the last we'll get to see Eleven and the gang battle the demogorgons in the Upside Down. This means that even after Season 4, there's more to the story of the Hawkins kids and it opens doors to a greater adventure to the team.
According to one of the Duffer brothers, they have knowledge of the arc of the story for quite some time and Season 4 will not be the end of it. Duffer says that they know when it will end and the pandemic, putting a halt to the whole world, has given them time to look at the future of the series and what is best for it. The pandemic gave the Duffer brothers time to think about their Netflix hit series and how long the story will need to pan out. Even with the delay, the Duffer brothers had been productive as regards the scripts and for the first time, all the scripts are on their hands and they got to go through the whole of it to make the necessary adjustments that the series would need.
Since a number of the main cast members are still minors, the production would still need to follow filming restrictions for the safety of each member.
Season Four will include eight additional characters who will be played by notable actors from various films and series to put more color in the already colorful series. Even the Nightmare on Elm Street's very own Freddy Krueger will be joining the series as a criminal imprisoned in a psych hospital. Series regulars will also be returning such as Millie Bobbie Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Gaten Materazzo, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, David Harbour, and Winona Ryder.
There is no official release date yet but it is expected to be in late 2021 provided that the pandemic eases up and takes it easier this year. Stranger Things 4 will be on Netflix.
