Stranger Things Season 4 Teaser Trailer Brings Back Eleven's Dark Past

As teased on Wednesday, Netflix has released a new teaser trailer for Stranger Things Season 4 and it takes us back to Eleven's past, calling back to her origins shown in Season 1, but it doesn't answer a lot of questions about the upcoming season.

The teaser seems to bring us back to the Hawkins National Laboratory, from which Eleven escaped in the first season of Stranger Things. There are several children inside the lab, all wearing hospital gowns and with shaved heads, then Dr. Martin Brenner walks into the room, and says that he has "something very special planned" for the children inside. The teaser shows to a door marked "11" and Eleven is shown, gasping.

The Season 4 teaser could be a hint that Dr. Brenner is still alive and using more children and experiments to contact Eleven, or it might be a clue that we'll see more of Eleven's flashback, giving us a look at her origins in the upcoming season.

Netflix hasn't announced an official release date for Stranger Things Season 4 yet, but it's expected to arrive by next year. Last November, executive producer Shawn Levy told Collider that the COVID-19 pandemic caused the delay in shooting season 4.

"I'll just say the pandemic definitely massively delayed shooting and therefore the launch of our current Season 4, date still TBD," Levy told Collider. "But it impacted very positively by allowing the Duffer brothers, for the first time ever, to write the entire season before we shoot it and to have time to rewrite in a way that they rarely had before so the quality of these screenplays are exceptional, maybe better than ever."

This teaser doesn't reveal any major plot details from the upcoming show, keeping us from the dark with the rest of the show's cast. Stranger Things Season 3 ended with Hopper sacrificing himself by walking into the Upside Down, but the post-credit scene, and Season 4's first teaser, set in Soviet Russia teased that he was still alive, just captured by the enemy. The others are still in Hawkins, Indiana, except for Jonathan, Will, Eleven, and Joyce, who moved out.

With the new teaser out, the first full trailer is expected to come out next, so it's likely that it will be released within a few months. The show faced production delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
