Stranger Things Director Takes Interest on Directing a Marvel or Star Wars Movie

Shawn Levy, the director of Stranger Things and the upcoming Netflix movie, The Adam Project, has expressed his interest in directing either a Marvel or Star Wars movie and considering what he has done in the beloved series with the story of the Hawkins gang dealing with the upside, it seems that he could be the perfect fit for any of the two massive franchises he is eyeing.

With a tenured career in the film and TV series industry under his belt, Shawn Levy started in the comedy genre before jumping into science fiction as the director of Real Steel in 2011 and later, in 2016, as the producer in Arrival which got a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Picture. In a chat with Screenrant, about his upcoming film, The Adam Project, Levy shared his interest in directing a Marvel or Star Wars film.

Levy would love to do a Marvel or Star Wars film but indicated that the timing must be right, "I appreciate that. I certainly find both the Star Wars and Marvel universes compelling. It would have to be the right moment, the right story, but those would definitely be tantalizing opportunities.”

Levy added that he wanted something different on his films, “Other than that, I have to say I really want to keep making movies that refuse to be only one thing, that are a hybrid of heart and laughter and spectacle because those are my favorite kinds of movies. They don't get made that often anymore and I feel really lucky that I've been able to make two in a row that are also original. And I don't ever take that for granted either."

Marvel has what Levy got in mind with the mix of science-fiction and light-hearted comedy as seen in the Guardians of the Galaxy films and Thor: Ragnarok. Star Wars also added some comedic touches in recent releases. With the background of Levy in both science-fiction and comedy genres, it would be no surprise to see him in the future taking the helm of a Marvel or Star Wars movie.

Shawn Levy’s most recent project is a science-fiction film with three Marvel actors under its roster: Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo, and Zoe Saldana. They are joined by Jennifer Garner, Walker Scobell, and Catherine Keener in a story of a time-traveling pilot who gets to team up with his younger self as they try to save the future.

Created by the Duffer Brothers, Levy is one of the brilliant minds behind Stranger Things which will be having its fourth season this coming May where the Hawkins gang would be back for more fiasco as they continue to deal with the mysterious world of the Upside Down.

Stranger Things Season 4 is set to release its first half on May 27, 2022 and the latter on July 1. The Adam Project will be out on Netflix on March 11.
