The release of the fourth season of Stranger Things on Netflix a month ago took the world by storm as fans worldwide tuned in to see the next adventure of our favorite Hawkins gang. However, despite its immense popularity and huge social media trend, it still failed to break an all-time Netflix record.
According to Variety, the fourth season of Stranger Things failed to break the record of Netflix's most popular TV season which they made official now that 28 days have passed since the second volume was released. The first season of Squid Game still remains to be the holder of the record.
The fourth season of Stranger Things ended up having 1.4 billion hours of views on Netflix during its first 28 days which is 300 million short of the first season of Squid Game which has 1.7 billion hours of views. It is also worth noting that the fourth season of Stranger Things is around five hours longer than the first season of Squid Game.
Even though the recent season of the long-running series failed to pass the record, it is still impressive nonetheless since it remained at the upper part of the charts for weeks after its release and it is tangible proof that the season indeed had a huge audience just like what everyone has already suspected.
It would be interesting to see whether the fifth season of Stranger Things will be able to break the record which is very possible since it will be the final season of the series and a lot of people are expected to tune in to see how they will end the story.
However, you can also argue that a lot more people will also tune in to see the second season of Squid Game as they are curious to see how they will continue the story and the tricks that they have in store for the next installment.
