Stranger Things 3: Dacre Montgomery Says Billy Is 'Pure Evil'

We already knew that Billy Hargrove was a douchebag when we met him in the second season of Stranger Things. However, Max's brother really took things up a notch in Stranger Things Season 3. His dangerous new personality certainly had people terrified and even actor Dacre Montgomery claims that his character is "pure evil."

Montgomery recently spoke to Collider about his character's new role as the Big Bad in Stranger Things 3. Not surprisingly, the Power Rangers star agrees with viewers by admitting that Billy goes into a villainous overdrive this season.

"I don't think [Billy] is just bad, I think it's pure evil, to use a cliché," Montgomery said. "He's like pure evil this season, but the supernatural element that's incorporated makes it really interesting and makes it dark and at times horrible, but I hope that the choices are interesting and diverse."

So how does one go about with having to play a guy who is obviously going mad, thanks to the influence of the Mind Flayer? Montgomery revealed that he studied Jack Nicholson's performance in the Stanley Kubrick classic The Shining.

"[I looked at] Jack Nicholson going into it was, not so much as a character but an actor. Some of the characters that he plays like his character in The Shining, for example, was what was tossed around a lot with the Duffers coming into Season 2," h said. "But I think more so with Jack's unpredictable choices that make him an interesting actor. In the second season, I like to think that we started to introduce some of that. But in the third season, it truly becomes more of his character in The Shining. It was extremely fun to play with and very powerful."

It certainly made for a convincing and terrifying performance. Although we're not quite sure if Billy will be back in the fourth season but anything can happen in the Netflix series.

Stranger Things Season 3 is currently streaming on Netflix.
