Steven Yeun Comments on Him Jumping Ship from Walking Dead to Marvel


Steven Yeun rose to fame when he assumed the role of Glenn Rhee in the television series The Walking Dead. And despite the show having ended already and his character being dead for years now, fans haven't forgiven the post-apocalyptic drama for killing off one of their beloved characters. However, Yeun’s character is dead and gone from The Walking Dead made room for the actor to secure significant roles from other areas of the industry, and just recently, the Korean star joined Marvel’s upcoming Thunderbolts movie.

In a new interview with Total Film, Yeun expressed his excitement for the role he’s going to take on for Marvel. He also mentioned the significance of The Walking Dead in the new path he’s going to walk on now with Marvel. “I feel good. I feel excited. I feel like a new challenge. I feel blessed to be able to play in a place that reaches so many people. I got to touch that on Walking Dead. It feels exciting to get another chance to connect with people in another way.” he said.

As per Marvel’s secret policy, Yeun’s role in Thunderbolts remains unknown. However, there have been reports that Sentry is the film's antagonist and could be the actor’s mystery role because no one has been cast in that part as of yet. Some also say that he could be Amadeus Cho, also known as the Totally Awesome Hulk or Brawn. While others argue the Nope actor could be Doctor Doom in the movie and could be a regular Thunderbolts member like Atlas or Fixer if given the chance.

However, as the fans wait for Yeun’s MCU debut, he will first be starring in the Netflix show Beef. Before this, the actor has taken on diverse roles with A24’s Oscar-nominated role in Minari, Ben in the film Burning, and the wacky yet disturbing Sorry To Bother You.

Thunderbolts will be out in cinemas on July 26, 2024.
