MCU Fans Demand Another Hulk Solo Film Following the Return of Some Beloved Characters

The comeback announcement of Liv Tyler as Betty Ross in the upcoming Captain America 4 after a 15-year absence from the franchise made many Marvel fans rejoice. Tyler's Betty is the daughter of General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, who first appeared in 2008's The Incredible Hulk. General Ross was played by the late William Hurt in the previous movie, and Harrison Ford is said to be taking over for Captain America: The New World Order. It has also been confirmed that Tim Blake Nelson will reprise his role as The Leader, adding yet another Incredible Hulk character to the cast.

Given the obvious pattern that this Captain America-centered film is showcasing Hulk characters, some MCU fans can’t help but question the lack of confirmation as to whether Bruce Banner will appear in the upcoming offering. It's been long overdue for a new movie that’s intended to focus on the Green Goliath himself to be released.

Some fans still find it quite unfair that Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor all got multiple sequels but The Hulk did not. However, others argue that it’s only fitting that he’s missing in the picture given that The Incredible Hulk is still the MCU's lowest-grossing film despite the big green man being a popular comic character. The domestic box office for The Incredible Hulk was $134 million, which was only $2 million more than the disappointing 2003 Hulk movie. The Incredible Hulk grossed $264 million worldwide, just missing the Hulk's $245 million.

Meanwhile, the rest of the MCU diehards pointed out that the lack of Hulk-related content is because The Hulk's film rights are complicated. Universal Pictures released Ang Lee's The Hulk in 2003 and held the rights for years. If a new agreement was not renegotiated, Universal Studios would have lost the rights to the character. The agreement stipulated that Universal Pictures would distribute The Incredible Hulk in exchange for Marvel Studios financing the film. Marvel was able to use the Hulk in other projects, like the planned Avengers movie, because they were financing it. Any subsequent solo Hulk films will be distributed exclusively by Universal, as explained by MovieWeb.

In Captain America: New World Order, Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie, will succeed Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) as Captain America. Carl Lumbly, Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, and Tim Blake Nelson will join Wilson in the cast. Julius Onah will be the director, Malcolm Spellman, and Dalan Musson will be writing the screenplay, and Kevin Feige and Nate Moore will serve as producers.
