Stephen King Confirms New The Stand Series On CBS All Access

It looks like there's just no stopping Stephen King this year. The author has just confirmed that a new series adaptation of his novel The Stand will air on CBS All Access.

According to Variety, King released a statement confirming the new show that will air on CBS All Access. The series will be written and executive produced by Homeland writer Ben Cavell and The New Mutants director Josh Boone. Boone will also direct the episodes of the new show.

"I'm excited and so very pleased that The Stand is going to have a new life on this exciting new platform. The people involved are men and women who know exactly what they're doing; the scripts are dynamite. The result bids to be something memorable and thrilling. I believe it will take viewers away to a world they hope will never happen," King said in his statement.

The 1978 novel takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where a deadly strain of influenza is unleashed and kills 99% of humanity. The survivors are then forced to deal with the breakdown of society.

CBS' description of the new series reads as follows:

"King's apocalyptic vision of a world decimated by plague and embroiled in an elemental struggle between good and evil. The fate of mankind rests on the frail shoulders of the 108-year-old Mother Abagail and a handful of survivors. Their worst nightmares are embodied in a man with a lethal smile and unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg, the Dark Man."

The Stand has not yet been given an official release date. However, the series is expected to have 10 episodes that will air by next year.
