Stephen Amell recently shared his honest reaction over the Green Arrow joke in the first season of Peacemaker.
As most fans know, the James Gunn-created series was relentless in poking fun at other DC characters. The fan-favorite hero played by the actor in the beloved CW show was one of the targets of its jokes.
During a hilarious scene in the first season, Peacemaker took a jab at the hero and said, "That dude goes to brony conventions dressed as the back half of Twilight sparkling with a four-inch wide butthole drilled into the costume."
Stephen Amell Reacts to Peacemaker Season 1's Green Arrow Joke
In a recent interview, Amell weighed in on the Green Arrow joke in the first season of Peacemaker.
He revealed that he didn't appreciate the show's jab at his fan-favorite character and was frustrated with how it seemingly poked fun at the Arrowverse.
"That was a little unnecessary. I didn’t f***ing appreciate that at all. Okay. I am just going to come right out and say this. There was just such... between the movies and Peacemaker a little bit... our show was kind of treated like sh*t. I get it, we’re on the CW, I get it, it’s TV," the actor said.
"But I also get the fact that when people think about the most recent iteration of DC, they don’t think about the Snyder Cut - they think about the Arrowverse."
Amell added, "We got crapped on for years, and years, and years, and this just seemed excessive. I’m not actually mad, but I just remember hearing that and just being like, 'F*** those guys,' like seriously."
"I’m up here. I’m working just as hard as anyone else. Do you know how hard it is to play a superhero with no superpowers for 23 episodes a year? It’s really, really, really hard, and I’m not looking for a prize but, like, maybe don’t shit on our show."
The actor clarified that he has no personal vendetta against John Cena and his issue is targeted at Gunn since he was the one who wrote the series.
"If I should be mad at anyone, it should be James Gunn for writing that in the first place. But [Cena] could not be a nicer guy. It’s not a personal vendetta against [Cena]," he said.
It is understandable to hear Amell's frustration and it sounded like he may have taken the joke personally even if it might not be intentionally a direct attack against any of the CW actors when Gunn wrote it.
However, fans would also point out that Green Arrow was not the only hero that the series poked fun at as it also notably had a joke about Aquaman which paid off with Jason Momoa's surprise cameo appearance in the season finale.
Peacemaker season 2 is slated to premiere on Max next year.
