Peacemaker premiered its eighth and final episode yesterday to much fanfare
and it was the perfect way to end the first season. The said episode marked the first official on-screen encounter between Christopher Smith and the Justice League — some members of the team, at least and it was downright spectacular. However, as awesome as the finale was, some fans aren't exactly thrilled with how James Gunn presented a certain character and now, he's drawing major heat for it.

Episode 8 titled "It's Cow Or Never" brought back the Aquaman "fish jokes", something that director James Wan has made a conscious effort to avoid. During the final moments of the said episode, Barry Allen aka The Flash pretty much confirmed that not only does Arthur Curry communicate with fish, he also sleeps with them.

If you've been following the show since the first episode, you're pretty much aware that Peacemaker himself brought up a rumor about Aquaman having sexual relations with aquatic animals and it's been a long-running gag in the DC universe. Well, while some fans found it hilarious, others actually thought that bringing back the fish jokes disrespected James Wan's vision for the character.

Unsurprisingly, fans called out Gunn on Twitter and the Marvel director is currently under fire for his treatment of the Atlantean King. Check out some of the reactions below:

Personally, I didn't find the joke offensive nor did it change the way I look at Aquaman. If anything, I actually enjoyed his mini-banter with Peacemaker and for some reason, it left me wanting more. It was also fun seeing Arthur Curry showcase a different side to him so yeah, I think the joke was harmless.

All eight episodes of Peacemaker are now available for streaming on HBO Max.
