Star Wars Actor Werner Herzog Calls Baby Yoda a Cinematic Feat

Baby Yoda isn't just Star Wars' wide-eyed, scene-stealing child in Star Wars: The Mandalorian. To German filmmaker and actor Werner Herzog, the green, Force-sensitive child is nothing less than an achievement for cinema.

Speaking in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter to talk about his work with Family, Romance, LLC, the Star Wars: Mandalorian Star couldn't help but discuss the hit Star Wars live-action series and its natural scene-stealer, Baby Yoda.

According to Herzog, the popularity of Baby Yoda took him quite by surprise because he doesn't really go on the internet all the time. However, the actor believes that The Child in itself is a cinematic feat because of its structure and sculpt.

"I'm not really into the Internet, social media, and the comments on the Internet. So, of course, it took me by surprise. But what's wrong with saying something good about Baby Yoda, which is really a phenomenal achievement? It's wonderfully created and sculpted, and a mechanical device that is a massive achievement for cinema. You can see it with your eyes, and you can touch it," Herzog told the entertainment news outlet.

The actor then goes on to praise the technical advancements that helped made The Mandalorian so great. As an actor and filmmaker who values realism in his projects, having the Baby Yoda doll to interact with really improved his experience in the Star Wars series.

Of course, we shouldn't be surprised by the technical success of the series. After all, The Mandalorian was created by Jon Favreau, the same director in who helmed technical marvels like The Lion King and Jungle Book.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian is available for streaming on Disney+.
