Star Wars VR Allows Gamers To Mess Around With Vader And His Volcanic Planet

With his heavy breathing, his resonating voice and his powerful presence, Darth Vader remains arguably one of the most iconic characters of the Star Wars franchise. Now, with a new Star Wars VR headed gamers way, Industrial Light & Magic has decided to offer fans a fantastic new demo of the VR experience exploring the life of Vader.

Written by Man of Steel and Batman Begins screenwriter, David S. Goyer, Nerdist reports that the demo episode of the Star Wars VR actually takes fans on an interactive journey focused on Darth Vader himself. ILM showed off the demo at the Apple Worldwide Devlopers Conference last Monday to show off how the companie's new iMacs are actually powerful enough to support virtual reality gaming and the graphics look very, very cool.

Featuring a few shots of a VR player toying around with TIE Fighters and Imperial Shuttles on the planet of Mustafar where Vader keeps his lair, gamers get to see the different modes offered in the Star Wars VR.

One mode allows gamers to pick and place different kinds of ships and characters in different settings while another mode allows gamers to build their own movie-maker "sequence."

"You are the visitor in this story that is happening in and around you, and to a certain extent you might even have some affect on [the narrative]," Goyer said. "You can pick up things, you can open things. You can push things, you can walk. You can touch characters." All of that would seem to suggest what we saw in the demonstration is just the tip of the iceberg.

Check out some of the action in the video from Unreal Engine below:

Though it isn't the same as joining the troops in a VR Star Wars spacebattle, it's definitely a start. And besides, who wouldn't want to mess around with Vader and his volcanic home base?

There's no info on when the Star Wars VR from ILM will be made available for purchase just yet, however we'll update everyone as soon as we get word.
