Star Wars Theory Suggests Obi-Wan Kenobi Aimed To Bring Darth Vader Back From The Dark Side

The death of Obi-Wan Kenobi in A New Hope was certainly a surprise to Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader as well as thousands of fans. But is it possible that the Jedi Master intentionally sacrificed himself for the greater good? A new Star Wars theory suggests that Old Ben was aiming to save Anakin Skywalker and bring him back from the Dark Side.

The theory was posted on TheDorkSide of the Force and it purports that Obi-Wan had every intention to sacrifice himself in an effort to convince Darth Vader to return to the Light Side. The idea is that the Jedi Master wanted to prove to the former Anakin that he could be powerful enough to be one with the Force. By disappearing just as Vader struck him, Obi-Wan proved that only the Jedi can be one with the Force.

It's an interesting theory that can also be seen in another way. The post goes on to suggest that Anakin later chose to be one with the Force so he can connect with his grandson, who he had seen in the future. This part of the theory is strengthened by the comic book Darth Vader #25 where the Sith Lord hears a voice saying, "Let the past die. Kill it, if you have to." The same line was spoken by Kylo Ren in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

So does this mean that Darth Vader will make an appearance in Star Wars: Episode IX? Although it's possible, we still recommend taking this with a grain of salt.

Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled for release on December 20, 2019.
