There was a whole lot of hype when Lucasfilm dropped the very first teaser for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker during the 2019 Star Wars Celebration in Chicago earlier this month. Fans had been waiting for footage from the third and final sequel trilogy installment since December last year, and when the teaser finally dropped in April, it felt like an insatiable thirst had finally been quenched.
Seeing all this excitement surrounding Episode IX, it shouldn't come as a surprise to hear the news that the teaser for The Rise of Skywalker ended up raking more views than the first teasers for Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Deadline has been doing its research about the numbers for The Rise of Skywalker's first teaser, and according to the entertainment news outlet, their sources say that 24-hour traffic for the trailer after its official release at Star Wars Celebration Chicago reached about 111 million views. That's 20 million more than The Last Jedi's first teaser which raked in 91 million during its release. It's also more than twice the number for The Force Awakens teaser which dropped on Thanksgiving back on November 27, 2014.
What can fans expect? Disney's been rather withholding, taking a year after The Last Jedi to release The Rise of Skywalker. Not only that, but the studio's been keeping the film's secrets under wraps the past few months. The only time Lucasfilm officially released new info about the film was during The Rise of Skywalker's panel at Star Wars Celebration, and even then, information was scarce.
Hopefully, we get more news and more trailers soon.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
