Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has finally made its premiere today, and now that fans have finally seen the film, Episode IX has gotten its own audience score.
To the surprise of many, The Rise of Skywalker has a much, much higher score from audiences than from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The film's critic score sits at an overwhelmingly low 58% critic score while its audience score comes at a high-flying 86%. The film's current standing makes it seem like the complete opposite of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, a film which critics couldn't get enough of, and yet, became one of the most divisive entries in the Star Wars franchise.
To state the numbers, The Last Jedi enjoys a 91% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes suffers from a 43% audience score.
From these points we could infer that fans and critics have two totally different ways of rating films in the sequel trilogy, however, readers should note that The Last Jedi was also the focus of review-bomb campaigns were the films haters would aggressively downvote a film so that it gets a lower score on sites like Rotten Tomatoes.
Of course, we're glad that fans are taking The Rise of Skywalker in a positive light. There's too much riding on the film for it to fail. There's an overwhelming concern that Disney might extend the franchise's hiautus in response to The Rise of Skywalker failing fans and failing the box office. We hope that the film continues to bring the numbers in despite how divisive the film seems.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is currently screening in cinemas.
