Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker's Billy Dee Williams Clarifies 'Gender Fluidity' Statement

Remember when Billy Dee Williams made a statement about gender fluidity? The Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker actor has clarified exactly what he meant when he said all those things.

In a previous interview, Williams admitted that he is "a very soft person" and stated that he views himself "as feminine as well as masculine." Naturally, several reports praised the Rocky star and tagged him as "gender fluid." Unfortunately, Williams has no idea what that even means.

Williams recently spoke to The Undefeated where he confessed he's never heard about "gender fluidity" before the statement went public.

"Well, first of all, I asked last night. I said, ‘What the hell is gender fluid?' That's a whole new term," Williams said. He then continued that he was "talking about was about men getting in touch with their softer side of themselves" and cited Dr. Carl G. Jung for coining the phrase ‘Anima animus.' "Anima means that is the female counterpart of the male self, and the animus is the male counterpart of the female," he explained.

"So, that's what I was referring to. I was talking about men getting in touch with the female side of themselves. I wasn't talking about sex, I wasn't talking about being gay or straight. People should read [Jung]. I mean, it would be an interesting education for a lot of people," Williams concluded.

Thanks for clearing that up, Mr. Williams. Either way, we're just happy that you're in touch with your softer, more feminine side.

Williams will return as Lando Calrissian in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which premieres on December 20.
