Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Will Show in China, Despite Low Popularity in the Country

Even though Star Wars isn't a big name in China, with only The Force Awakens making a decent amount of money in that country, Disney and LucasFilm have announced that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker would be coming out on December 20 in the country. It seems like Disney and LucasFilm are unphased by the failings of The Last Jedi and Solo: A Star Wars Story, really wanting to get Chinese dollars.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Chinese audiences would get the chance to watch The Rise of Skywalker on the same day as North America. It's a nice gesture and could get them more money as a result, though we'll have to wait and see. Disney probably wants Star Wars to be a worldwide phenomenon so pushing for the franchise to have a spot in China, which only allows a couple of Hollywood films to appear in the country, is a big deal.

Also, China seems to be where the big bucks are at. After all, countries are willing to censor their material and not support human rights to appease China, so it only makes sense that Disney would want Star Wars there. Who needs morals when you can make money.

Okay, that's a bit much. Star Wars is a solid franchise and there's nothing wrong with wanting to expand its reach in this country, even if the government can be annoying.
