We meet Finn as a stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and since then he's been one of the main heroes of the Sequel Trilogy. What's interesting is, J.J. Abrams has revealed that we'll actually get more of Finn's origin in The Rise of Skywalker.
Talking to Vanity Fair, Abrams reveals, "It is part of the story of this one… And it was alluded to in Episode VII, but there's a bit more light shed on that in this one."
If anything, Abrams confirms that we're going to get a lot more on the history of several characters, though it's not going to be as extensive as some people would expect. Abrams continues, "I'm not saying we get full, exhaustive downloads on all of their childhoods and every major step that got them to where they are. But there are a lot of questions about Finn's past, about Poe's past, obviously Rey and Kylo, and then some of the new characters we meet."
So far, the biggest mystery we have on Finn is his life as a stormtrooper. We know that he was taken as a child and raised as a soldier of the First Order, so maybe the only thing we need to find out is where he's really from. A lot of people guess that he comes from the same planet that Jannah is from, and I guess that could be an interesting arc for Finn, to find out where he was from before the First Order took him in.
Catch Finn and the rest of the Resistance when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters Dec. 20.
