Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Theory Suggests Palpatine Trained Snoke

Lucasfilm might not be comfortable giving away too many details about Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker this early in the game, but Star Wars fans aren't all that uncomfortable with cooking up all sorts of wild theories either.

One of the most recent fan theories to hit the internet involves Palpatine, a classic Star Wars villain teased in the very first trailer for The Rise of Skywalker. In the teaser video, fans get to hear the familiar crackle of Darth Sidious right after Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), and Poe (Oscar Isaac) walk across a field overlooking the wreckage of the Death Star II from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

Taking to Reddit, a Star Wars fan tries to explain Palpatine's return, saying that Sidious was the one behind Snoke all this time.

"Years before the second war between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire, The spirit of Sidious haunted Snoke his whole life. He chose Snoke so that he would finish the job that Palpatine could never do," Reddit user LtAldoYoung18 theorizes, "He trained Snoke to do what he did when he was the in control of the Galactic Empire."

"When Snoke took control, he was overthrown by Kylo Ren the same way Sidious was overthrown by Darth Vader, it's like a cycle that started over and ended the same way," the Star Wars fan adds.

According to the theory, the reason why Sidious was given the chance to come back was because of Snoke's failing. Right now the theory is gaining traction on Reddit, though some fans do believe that Palpatine will most likely return as a projection instead of a Force Ghost in the film.
