Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Star Teases a Major Reunion in the Movie

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is looking to continue the success of previous films while also answering some criticisms that were targeted towards The Last Jedi. Aside from continuing the journey of Rey to be a full-fledged Jedi, we're also being promised the return of some classic characters such as Emperor Palpatine and Luke Skywalker in ghost form. It seems like the cast has also gotten this memo since they've also been hyping up the nostalgia.

During an interview with Yahoo, Kelly Marie Tran teased a big reunion for The Rise of Skywalker, noting how characters from the older and newer films will be making appearances. This should definitely please fans of the franchise, though it seems like the people behind the scenes aren't taking The Last Jedi's message of "letting the past die" to heart.

"J.J. has done a really good job of bringing a lot of things together, in terms of having [characters] from the older films. Everyone's together in this movie, which isn't something that's happened before. So it's really exciting."

While having all these classic Star Wars characters together should be heartwarming, especially after the tragic death of Carrie Fisher, it does feel like the franchise is going backward. As a fan of The Last Jedi, this feels like a disappointing development, though I'm willing to be proven wrong. Plus, this is meant to be a big sendoff for all Skywalker-related shenanigans so a touch of nostalgia won't hurt.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be coming out on December 20.
