Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Might Confirm Rey's Past Is Still Important

There are a lot of things that were revealed in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. For instance, Kylo Ren somehow confirmed that Rey isn't anybody special, having been sold by her parents for drinking money. However, it looks like Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will prove that the girl left on Jakku was left there for a more significant reason. Will Episode IX reveal that Rey's past is still important to the ongoing storyline?

Fans have speculated on the possibility that director J.J. Abrams will retcon Rey's parentage in The Rise of Skywalker. Although this is a welcome idea, there might still be a different way that Episode IX will tackle the dilemma of proving Rey's importance without changing what happened in The Last Jedi. On the other hand, we may still learn that her origins are what truly matters.

A new theory suggests that The Rise of Skywalker will explore where Rey originally came from and that it might have been hinted at in the film's first teaser. There is a brief shot of a ship hovering over the snowy planet of Kijimi, and it's not just any ship. It resembles the ship that left Rey on Jakku in her Force vision in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Considering that Rey's parents were supposed to be nobodies, there is a possibility that the ship that transported the young girl to Jakku might be piloted by someone of importance. Were they the ones who bought Rey and then realized she was too powerful in the Force to be dealt with? Were they trying to hide the girl from the First Order?

For now, these are based on speculations so it would be best to take it with a grain of salt. Perhaps the truth will finally be revealed when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20.
